Video tutorial: Baby shower

If you are anything like me, your friends are popin' out babies left and right! After doing a few parties and showers myself I thought I would share some helpful tops to make the planning go a little less stressful. I'm a girl on a budget, but that goes not mean the party has to look like one!

Home made chicken salad, olive and cream cheese, cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches.

HINT: to make the sandwiches the night before the party. Put a light spread of butter on both sides of the inside of the bread before making your yummy sandwiches.

Baby Bootie Party Favors. See video for tutorial!

MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

Have your guest write a little message or advice to the baby for her/him to read as he gets older.

Bottle: Cost Plus World Market- $5.00
Note: Cut 1" x 4" strips of white computer paper
Twine: Ace hardware $3.00

GUESS THAT GRUB

Pick out 5-10 different baby foods, remove the food labels and number
(Don't forget to write what food goes with what number)

HOW BABIES ARE MADE

WARNING might offend younger party guest

This is a partner game. All guest can play at the same time.. or 2 at a time race!
Partners will be standing 6-8 yards away from each other.
Partner A stands with a toilet paper roll between there thighs. (keep extra rolls near partner A)
Partner B is 8 yards away with a toilet plunger between their legs. haha

Parner B has to run or wobble over to Partner A without using their hands.. and sticks their stick through Partner A's toilet paper roll!

They take the roll, still with plunger between legs, and wobble back to their spot, drop off the roll.. and run back for more rolls!

This game gets everyone laughing.. and since they only have 1 minute to gather all their rolls.. this is one game you want to record!! HELLO YOUTUBE!! ;)

Prize Ideas for both games:
DVD's are cheap.. and you can even find them at BIG LOTS

My suggestions:
Knocked up
Baby Moma'
Nine Months
Look Who's Talking
The Switch (love this)
Juno
Father of the Bride 2
Fools Rush In

Treasure Hunt: Rattan Hanging Chair

I have been wanting a hanging rattan chair ever since i saw the Parker hotel in Palm Springs. Jonathan Adler was the designer and he did a fantastic job of turning this hotel into a mid century fantasy. When looking on CL we found the perfect one, and Seth went to pick it up. The price was $100, but since it had no cushion, Seth talked the guy down to $80. I did not even want a cushion because I am planning on putting a lamb skin in the chair, just like Mr Adler. I cant wait till the house is done, so I can hang this amazing chair!

Treasure Hunt: Estate Sale San Diego

While Seth was working, he let me talk his car and visit an estate sales around his area in SD. I was amazed by this home. The outside was nothing very interesting. Just an old house you would find on any old street. But inside it was amazing. The people who lived in this house were world travelers, and they had the art to prove it.

Yes this is a wood carved Chinese entrance way from inside the house. Wow.. So cool.

Although I wish I could buy everything in this house, I just picked up a few things that I thought I can use. Going to these Estate sales really makes you wonder about the people who used to own this stuff, and how they came to get it. I bet these people were so interesting and fun!

DIY: Lamps

So I had 2 of these old lamps from my grandfathers home. They were really showing a lot of wear, but I really liked the shape of them. I found that instead of buying new lamps, I can early change these up with some paint and a new awesome lamp shade. I found these pretty simple shades at Ikea for $20 each. When I got home i found that CLEARLY this shades are only made for Ikea lamps!!. It took some extra time, and some quick thinking... but i got it to work! Its really rewarding to take something from old and frumpy, to new a chic.

Treasure Hunt: Side Table

So It seems like I have been on a lucky streak with finding all this amazing stuff. My mom informed me that after the sofa, my luck was probably going to end.. That is not the case! I went to a local estate sale last monday and as I walk in i see this amazing mid century side table. Thinking it was going to be over priced like everything i see online... i walk over to it. $5. No way! How can this amazing side table be $5. I know I can resell this for $100. it makes no sense. There were a little bit of scratches, but nothing a little fixing up cant fix. I bought the table and headed right over the Ace Hardware. I told the guy all about my find, and he was excited to help me. I got some sand paper and a darker stain.. and was on my way to fixing this baby up! Within 2 hours, I this side table looked brand new. Fingers crossed my treasure hunt is not over!!

Treasure Hunt: Good Will

So today I decided to go to my local GoodWill. Although a few times a year I give my clothing to the GoodWill I have never really been there to shop, unless it was for costumes. But I decided to see if they had anything fun....and they did!!

I found some amazing items for soooo cheap... and the guy gave me 50% off of everything! I ended up walking out only spending $11. I cant believe it. Its true, whats someones trash, is another persons treasure!

UPDATE: I did some research on the warming stand (in the photo) and its actually a big ticket item. I was trying to find another one, to use as pet food dishes for Daisy and Ebony... and I found out its selling for over $200. I paid $.99. WIN!

Treasure Hunt: Living Room Sofa

So I was checking out Craigslist for some mid century items and I came across this amazing white 9' sofa. It was priced at $300!! For the shape it was in, I cant believe it was that amazing price. I contacted the seller and she informed me that someone is on their way to check it out now. I was seriously sad, because I knew someone was going to buy it! But.. within an hour, I got a phone called asking if I wanted to check it out. I could not even breath I was so excited. I hopped down to Dana Point to see this perfect white sofa.. and it was just that! PERFECT! The women told me that it was to long for the other buyer. Since I have a very long wall, its perfect for me and i was all in. The lady showed me a footprint on one of the cushions. During her move, she stepped on the sofa and got it a little dirty.. She said.. Ill take $200 because its a little dirty! Are you kidding me?? I almost passed out with excitement. Not only does it fit the room perfectly, but once the wood floors are in, this sofa will look even more amazing!
